Homecoming: Exploring Ethnic and Cultural Identity and Building a Sense of Belonging is an ongoing personal project I started in February 2019. My project focuses on the on identity, memory, home, and healing through research, visual art, and performance. I explore how identities are formed, rejected, and erased to build a sense of belonging and community. By repurposing associated objects of memory and family photographs it evokes one’s imagination, senses, connections, and healing. As part of my artistic practice, I revisit physical and metaphorical spaces through collective memories and dreams as a medium to remember the past, present, and forgotten parts of ourselves.
At the end of my project I will be exhibiting all three installation pieces together, El Salon, El Bembe, and (name underway) paired with artworks I've created in the last 4 years.
